Coldstone: Gotta Have It

by James Baquet

Coldstone Creamery Banner

Coldstone Creamery was a revolutionary concept when it hit the states around 20 years ago: take some ice cream, put it on a cold stone (get it?), and chop in some additional ingredients.

Well, it's here. Head for Kingglory Plaza; it's near Exit A of Guomao Metro on the basement level (that entrance goes directly into the mall).

You can read about the expansion into Asia here, or Shanghaiist's take on the whole thing here.

But we recommend you turn off the computer, head for Guo Mao with around 25 rmb (the smallest size) plus a couple of yuan for each add in, and try it.

Or, if you're a big eater (and big spender) take 52rmb, like I did. I mixed chocolate and banana ice creams in the 50rmb "Gotta Have It" size, and added in Snickers and pecans. (The first add-in is free.)

Be careful, though, of the goofy singing, to the tune of "Flinstones" or "If you're Happy and You Know It" or "B-I-N-G-O!"

If you like it, good. If not, bring your iPod.

Anyway, if you time it right, you'll see us there again next weekend.

Enjoy!

good stuff

count me in for another ice cream session!
