About "Shenzhen Shtick" (SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED)
shtick [n.] an entertaining gimmick or piece of business used to gain a laugh.
Get your kicks from Shenzhen Shtick!
There's lots to laugh at everywhere you go, and Shenzhen is no exception.
We're looking for photos (or a REALLY good story) about life in Shenzhen (and sometimes greater China) that will make people laugh.
Let's move beyond Chinglish: there's plenty of that to be seen on the net.
Rather, let's show the odd, the amusing, the inadvertant that has happened simply because we're here.
Case in point: Look at this picture. See anything wrong?
We assume it was going to say "culture." Unfortunate positioning of the automatically-placed "jump" in the caption. The webmaster probably hasn't realized the implications yet. Not strictly Shenzhen, but China-expat-related, and funny enough for inclusion.
How about this one:
It's not funny per se. It's an oddity, something the folks back home might find amusing: A carrot carved into a delicate pagoda at a Buddhist restaurant (the Guiyuan branch of Jin Hai Ge).
Get the picture? (Sorry)
So send us something funny. Or odd. Or off-kilter. Or amusing. A picture and a brief (and hopefully funny) caption are the preferred medium. If you have an incredibly funny story, the kind that makes people laugh 100% of the time, we'll consider it.
And what will you get in return?
Good karma from making people happy. AND--and don't discount this--our undying gratitude.
(Now THAT's funny!)
[Legal stuff: You retain the rights to anything you send; we can use it anywhere and any way we wish on www.shenzhenbuzz.com only. If we have any ideas about using it in print -- even on a T-shirt or a flyer--or on any other URL, we'll talk to you first. You will be credited for the submission, unless you choose to remain anonymous. If you have a "cause" -- a business to promote, your own website or blog, a favorite online charity -- we will be happy to provide a link. We WILL "watermark" pictures so if any scoundrel steals them for use elsewhere on the net s/he'll have to advertise us to do it. We reserve the right to decide what's funny. You may not agree, but it's our homepage and we can do what we want. Don't come crying to us if we "reject you." It's not about you; it's about us.]
