Feature writers wanted!
One of the original ideas behind The BUZZ was that we'd like to make just a little money from advertising, and turn around and spend it on content that benefits the expat community.
One way we'd like to do that is by publishing a few feature articles every month.
Right now we have NO income; anything we pay comes out of our pockets. So the pay we can offer will be...shall we say..."token."
For our main articles, we're thinking of paying around 200rmb for 1500-2000 words with 2 or 3 pictures (although photo essays will be considered). Yes, that works out to (at worst) about 1 jiao per word. Miserable!
We also want to do some "Photo Shorts." These would be one-to-three good pictures of something in Shenzhen--a statue, a strange cultural phenomenon, an unusual building, an interesting-looking person--with a brief explanation, for 100rmb. Pathetic!
BUT you get exposure. (With the only English guide to the Metro, and all the other things we're offering, we expect to generate a lot of traffic pretty quickly.) And, sooner or later, we will start making money. At that point, we'd like to raise the fees considerably higher. No promises as to when that will happen, though we hope it will be within a few months. And when we do, we will favor those writers who helped us out in the early days (along with our columnists) when handing out assignments.
We'll be buying about one article per week. If you're interested in writing for The BUZZ, write to request our
"articles wanted" list, or send a query to pitch your own ideas. Let us know what you've written before (new writers welcome), and send a sample or a blog address if you have one.
Also, tell us your interest in, or experience with, the topic.
